On January 18th, the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held a tutoring session at the East Cobb Library. Even though only 8 students showed up, the four tutors were able to spend more time with each individual student and explain different concepts in more depth.
During the two sessions, the four tutors helped the students in the subject areas of math and reading. Once the students demonstrated mastery of such materials, the tutors were able to go more in depth, even beyond the current lessons that the students’ teachers may have been teaching at the time.
With the age range between the students being from late elementary school to middle school, the tutors could explain advanced concepts by using vocabulary that only the most proficient students would understand. Thus, the tutors were able to work efficiently and precisely.
The East Cobb Branch of AYLUS holds tutoring through the East Cobb Youth Tutoring program, operating in the East Cobb library weekly; the tutors interact with their students in a positive manner, and they connect with the students both academically and personally. Young students are able to gather information in a safe environment, and the tutoring program opens them up to new perspectives each visit.
