On December 14, 2019, the Phoenix branch volunteered at their local Feed My Starving Children branch from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. A total of 16 members of the Phoenix branch volunteered at this event, helping bag, pack, and box nutritious food for people in the Philippines. In the process of packing food, these volunteers also exercised the important skill of working cooperatively with other volunteers to efficiently do their work, an essential character trait that is beneficial to society as it both preserves harmony and reduces discord between people. Volunteering with each other and other people was definitely an invaluable experience.
During this session of volunteering, these members of the Phoenix branch also learned why they were packing food and how it was directly improving the lives of the people it was going to. This informative aspect of the volunteering taught them about the detrimental effects of malnutrition on children as it can stunt their growth and weaken their immune system but also how the food they packed, which contained essential food groups such as carbohydrates and protein, could help the people in these unfavorable conditions fight malnutrition and let their children recover. From this, our volunteers were able to associate the work they were doing with a clear purpose: to help less fortunate people receive food to sustain themselves. In the future, we hope to continue doing such volunteer projects in order to continue helping this cause and people around the world.
