On Friday, September 27th, three members of the East Cobb Branch helped teach English to senior citizens at the Fulton County Senior Center from 9:30 to 10:30 (one hour). The goal of the activity is to help elderly men and women from China learn basic phrases in English that they will be able to use in their daily lives.
During this hour, AYLUS volunteers were able to teach 16 senior citizens about question words (who, what, when, where, why, and how). All of the ‘students’ were able to grasp what those words mean and when to use them and improve their ability to ask questions in English. The volunteers also grew more confident in their mastery of both Chinese and English.
The volunteers that participated were Eason Fang (1 hour), Sophie Fang (1 hour), and Emily Sun (1 hour).
