East Cobb Branch Academic Tutoring Summer Event VIII

During the week of July 8-11, 2019, East Cobb Branch of AYLUS held a tutoring session for the Academic Tutoring Summer Event. The four members that participated in the event tutored 6 elementary students.

The East Cobb Branch holds Academic Tutoring Summer Event to give students an opportunity to learn during the summer. The event hopes to create a smooth transition for students rising to another grade level. The tutoring event not only helps make sure students understand previously learned concepts but also gives students a preview of what they will learn in the next grade. The tutoring event provides students with tutoring to work on concepts such as math and reading.

On July 9, Jeffrey tutored an elementary student for an hour.

On July 10, Emily tutored an elementary student. She taught the standard way to solve long division problems both quickly and correctly. She also went over how to do complicated multiplication problems. The student was able to learn very fast and solve problems on his own.

On July 12 Saloni tutored an elementary student for an hour.

On July 13 Rima taught 3 elementary school students. The tutor worked on a variety of subjects with the students such as math, vocabulary, writing, grammar, spelling, and alphabet.

10:00 – 11:00am: the 4th grader was able to complete his math and vocabulary work very self-sufficiently and only required pointers. Rima spent most of her time with the kindergartener on her grammar, vocabulary, writing, and spelling. She proved to be a very fast learner. This session, however, she was able to show enthusiasm to complete the work with the tutor.

11:00 – 12:00 am: the 3rd grader was very bright and quick at doing multiplication problems. She was a logical thinker who needed a little bit of guidance and some tricks to get even faster. Her ability to spell numbers also improved with a few pointers.

The tutors felt joyed being able to help students.

Attendance: Rima Rami (2 hours), Jeffrey Kuang (1 hour), Emily Yang (0.5 hour), and Soloni Jain (1 hour)
