On May 21st, two members of the East Cobb Branch spent two hours participating at Brumby Elementary School Food Pantry.
This activity helps provide food and other necessities for families and children of Brumby Elementary School and Wheeler. The food pantry was initiated when the administrators found out that the children came to school still hungry. There were many volunteers that were needed to help carry and load food to the cars, stock shelves and assist at other needed places. Our members helped by making paper bags in which the families could put their selected items in, unloading food from the cars, filling the boxes with food, shampoo, toothpaste, and other household items.
The members also helped sort strawberries by separating the good ones from the moldy ones. Near the end, the volunteers helped throw away all the moldy strawberries, along with any other trash that accumulated. This event was a good way to help families in need. This food pantry at Brumby Elementary School is a group effort by YMCA, Must Ministries, and Costco. These separate companies/organizations all contributed by donating free items to the school so that families in need could use them. Not only was this a noteworthy experience, but it was also emotional, as many of the families were very thankful for the items that received, and one family even cried.
