On February
Before arriving at Switzer Library, the members did not think that many kids would show up since there weren’t many kids there the week before. When the sat down in Study Room #5, a family of 4 came
After they left at 3:30, three other students came in. This time we were joined with another tutor to help us. Cynthia came at 3:30 willing to help. These three students were in kindergarten and in 5th grade. They were a bit shy at first and did not talk much but later they became more talkative as they knew us. The fifth graders were twins, they needed help with their fractions. The kindergartener needed help making sentences. Kevin help the kindergartener, Diane and Cynthia helped the two 5th graders. The tutoring ended at 4:30 and the students will be back next week for more tutoring.
At the East Cobb Library, We had five students come in for tutoring. Our two tutors were Eileen Zhang and David Qu. A variety of subjects were covered in the tutoring sessions, like math, reading comprehension, writing, and biology.
One of the students who came in asked for help with reading comprehension. Together, the student and the tutor read through the assigned passages. The first worksheet was on a passage from Homer’s The Odyssey. After a first read of the passage, the tutor helped the student answer the questions. The second worksheet was on snowflakes. The worksheet was composed of a short poem and a non-fiction passage. The activity was intended to be completed together with a parent or guardian, so after reading the two passages, the tutor and the student discussed the questions before writing down.
Tutoring sessions are held every Saturday from 2:30 to 4:30 at East Cobb Library and Switzer Library. All students from elementary school to middle school are welcome to come in for a one-on-one tutoring session with our tutor.
