Greater Princeton AYLUS Talented Member Angela Li Actively Volunteering on the “Music from Heart” and “Culture Promotion” Projects Since 2018

Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang

Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, encourages its members to join a variety of year-round volunteering projects. Thanks to one of our talented members Angela Li, who has been actively volunteering on the GPA “Music from Heart” and “Culture Promotion” projects, more and more people in the area, esp. students, learn about GPA and become more interested in our more than 5000 years of culture.

Volunteering Activities of Angela Li:

My name is Angela Li. I am currently 14 years old and in the 9th grade at High School North in New Jersey. At school, I play frisbee. It’s a fun sport and really connects the people together, no matter who’s on what team. It is a very special experience for me and others. I’m also part of the Art Club at High School North. We paint some of the murals all around school as a way to express our school spirit.

I am joining GPA as a way to not only communicate and meet new people but also to bring joys to others. I have been playing the violin for about 10 years and I find it really fun to play with other people and make connections with others through music. I was in Chamber Orchestra all three years of my middle school career, and in high school, I am currently in a small chamber group called Nonet. It’s really fun to be in such a small group, where everyone can make jokes in a comfortable atmosphere as well as make music with each other.

Music has also expanded my perspective on a lot of things throughout the years. My recent volunteer activities with music included “Colors of Culture Orchestra Performance” in the Asbury Park Convention Hall, 1-1:30 pm and 5-5:30 pm for 1 hour on December 15th, 2018; “Nonet Chamber Performance” in the Marketfair Mall, 5-7 pm for 2 hours on December 20th, 2018.

I am often found in my room reading, drawing, or in front of my computer writing stories that can’t be trapped in my brain. It gives me a way to escape from reality and immerse myself into a completely different world. Sharing the worlds and stories inside my brain with others also gives me a happy joy. In the future, I wish to share them with the world.

I like to write in English, and Chinese as well. I felt happy when my articles got published in the newspapers Junior Reporter Times (July 1st, 3 hours; Oct. 1st, 3 hours), The New Observer (Dec. 7th, 3 hours), and I felt even better when I volunteered to work as an editor for our own newspapers, Huaxia Plainsboro Chinese School (PCS) Voices in 2018, and helped other students have their articles published, too (Sep. 16th, 2 hours; Oct. 21st, 5 hours; Dec. 2nd, 2 hours; Jan. 13th, 2019, 2 hours).

I believe all of the above activities serves the “Music from Heart” and “Culture Promotion” projects purpose right. Please enjoy photos and my articles below, in addition to the layouts that I created for the newspapers:
