Reported by Cassie Tammy Wang
Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA) Branch in NJ has many members talented in bilingual skills, reading, writing, and art, who are all in favor of Chinese and American cultures. Using our talents, Greater Princeton Branch continued its 3rd “Culture Promotion” project on January 16th, 2019 by contributing articles in Chinese with art illustration to a newspaper “Junior Reporter Times” regularly.
On page A1 of its January 16th, 2019 issue, Cassie Tammy Wang spent 3 hours to author an article, expressing her opinion on the two recently “produced” gene modified baby girls, named Lulu and Nana, in Shenzhen, China. They were claimed to be immune to the HIV virus for their lives. But that’s unlikely to be true. Cassie does not believe that there were any breakthroughs in the technology; in fact, the whole experiments using human as “laboratory mouse” was actually a breakthrough in the ethical bottomline of scientists! To make her opinion more convincing, Cassie drew an illustration of a “lovely” gene modified baby with barcode and sales tag on. In addition, as the Art Editor-In-Chief, Cassie spent 6 hours to review the layouts of the complete issue.
On page A2, GPA member Edward Cao spent 3 hours to author his article, sharing his experience and funny story being a volunteer virtually teaching a class of elementary school students in the rural area of China. He has been teaching these students English every Sunday evening since December 2018. The content so far was about Holidays in the United States, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. The advances in network technology recent years allow and promote culture communication between countries even being separated by the Pacific Ocean.
On page A4, GPA member Angela Li spent 3 hours to author her article, reporting an Opening Ceremony of the Sports Event at Huaxia Plainsboro Chinese School.
Congratulations to Edward Cao and Angela Li. We look forward to reading more articles of GPA members for the benefit of “Culture Promotion”, which could help make our community better!
