Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, has many talented members. Since December 11th, 2018, we started to feature some of them on our web page, so all GPA members get to know each other. Hopefully, it would also help with more constructive and collaborative teamwork among GPA members in our volunteer activities! So here comes one of our proud members Amy Lin:
Self-Introduction Provided by Amy Lin:
My name is Amy Lin. I am a sixth grader at John Witherspoon Middle School in Princeton. As the only child at home, I enjoy school because at school, I get to meet and talk to lots of friends and teachers, and participate in fun activities like Robotics Team and Community Period. My friends think me as a fun person, because I like to socialize and talk to people.
I enjoy acting and speaking in public. In fifth grade, our whole grade acted out the Shakespeare play “Much Ado About Nothing”, and I was lucky enough to get the role of Hero. I have entered many competitions at my Chinese School, such as the Speech Contest and the Debate Contest, and I also hosted the 2017 graduation ceremony for the school.
I play the cello at school, and I am in the orchestra group. However, my main instrument is the piano. I have been playing the piano since I was five. Playing the piano is a way to relax for me. It places me in a world of music. My favorite type of music is from the Romantic Period, especially Chopin’s pieces. The older I got, the more I enjoyed piano, because I understood the music better. Recently, I have gotten into the habit of composing music on the piano.
Ballet is one of my favorite activities outside school. After studying ballet for seven years, which is about two-thirds of my life, I finally got onto Pointe. Even though ballet is very elegant and beautiful, there is long and hard work behind it. Whenever I put hard work into something and it comes out beautifully, I have a sense of achievement.
I joined the GPA organization because I wanted to help people, even the world when I become more capable. A lot of kids don’t have what we are used to. There are lots of places in the world with poverty and pollution, unlike where we live. With the GPA members, we can work towards protecting our environment, and helping the people in need by doing a fundraiser and donate the money to a charity. GPA will expose me to the real world.
