To celebrate the Christmas and New Year, Greater Princeton AYLUS (GPA), NJ Branch, has been actively planning its first “Music from Heart” event at the Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center in Plainsboro, New Jersey.
On December 15th, 2018, twenty three members of GPA, including Cassie Tammy Wang, Elizabeth Yunjue Li, Angelina Yingying Liu, Raymond Lin, Steven Chi, Amber Yu, Chelsea Lin, Andy Chi, Thomas Zhao, Tony Wenxuan Wang, Vincent Li, Sophia Gao, Jie Gao, Sarah Yan, Kevin Song, Victor Song, Laura Wu, Ellen Wu, Eliana Du, Angela Du, Karen Wang, Liz Zhao, and Lily Cao, teamed up and served at Merwick for 3 hours from 8:00 to 11:00 am.
Ms Anisa Knox, the Program Director of Grace Garden at Merwick, and Ms Christine Hui, the Coordinator and Translator at Merwick, welcomed all GPA members and briefly introduced them to the Merwick facility, which seemed appropriate for music performance scheduled and any in the future (Lunar New Year and more!). Taking photos with Santa brought GPA family members a lot of fun, by the way.
In addition, GPA partnered with the Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center to start its “Humanistic Care” project, launched right after the creation of GPA in early December, 2018. There are currently more than two hundreds tenants (among them, 20% speak Chinese only) at Merwick, and youth volunteers (age 15 and above) with bilingual skills are always welcome. GPA members are encouraged to sign up with both Merwick and GPA, once approved, they will help seniors at Merwick in many ways during their social hours on weekends.
Meanwhile, using their talents in music, instrument, dance and vocal, GPA members look forward to giving performances at Merwick on December 30th, 2018, that the music from heart will eventually bring people a lot of joy in the coming holiday season!
