On November 10th, 2018, members from the East Cobb Branch of AYLUS went to JFBC to help pack meals for kids in Africa. We helped a non-profit organization called Feed My Starving Children. The main goal of this group is ensuring kids all over the world that they will have a healthy meal.
When we arrived at the packing location, we were first briefed on what the organization is, the rules, and what our jobs were going to be. There were many jobs needing to be filled such as, distributing food into bags and putting them into boxes, packing and wrapping the boxes, etc. Our members chose to be a part of the warehouse crew and from there we were split up into different jobs. We were split between making boxes, scooping rice and soy into plastic tubs, and running to deliver those tubs to various stations where people were putting the food into little bags.
After packing for 2 hours, we were brought into the briefing room again to find out how many meals we have packed. We were surprised to find out that we have packed a years’ worth of meals for around 120 children. We appreciated this awesome opportunity and felt great to be able to help people.
Attendance: David Qu, Kevin Shen, Katherine Sha, and Stanley Lu. (2 hours each)
