On Saturday, September 9th, the East Cobb Youth Tutoring (ECYT) launched its first tutoring program at East Cobb Library. The program was initiated by East Cobb Branch of AYLUS and Cobb County Library, in two hours, two members tutored 7 students from K-5th grades on math and reading.
Although attendance did not go according to plan as some students did not show up, other students dropped by creating a busy schedule for the tutors. The students were not easy to teach as each one was very different from the rest. As they spanned quite the grade range, the teaching methods had to be completely different for each individual person. Those in younger grades were especially hard to teach as they did not have as good of an understanding on basic subjects that help with learning. In addition, our two tutors had a lot of experience tutoring others by helping people in science, learning mandarin, and much more. This means that they were excellent at teaching the children.
The ECYT program currently operates at one library on Saturdays, it is good news for students in East Cobb area as it offers opportunities to improve their knowledge. After ads flyer was posted in late August, many parents and students called in to reserve the tutoring slot. Meanwhile, the East Cobb Branch would send and rotate their best students from local high school as tutors. These tutors had achieved Math Olympiad Perfect Score, AMC 8 Perfect Score, Cobb Meet 1st Place, Math Counts Regional Champion, PSAT Reading perfect score, Arts State Award, Science Olympiad National medals, etc.
