On August 5th, 2018, the AYLUS Pearland Branch hosted its second annual College Life and Experiences Seminar, this time at the Pearland Westside Library. Over 60 parents and students attended this year’s session to learn about the application process, college life, and the preparation needed in high school for success.
AYLUS was lucky enough to have eight high achieving speakers share their journey and experiences throughout both high school and college. Donna Liu of the University of Pennsylvania, Jenny Yu of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Julie Liu of New York University, Divya Ramamurthy of the University of Pennsylvania, Srikar Anantha of St. Louis University, Kevin Chen of UT Austin, and finally Jason Jiang of the University of Pennsylvania all had the chance to discuss their own memories. Moderators Vincent and Janie, students at Dawson High School, asked a series of questions in order to show the parents and students the multiple different pathways to success that each person can take to reach their desired destination.
At the end of the night, the floor was opened to any concerns left unspoken and then the Pearland Branch closed the curtains on the information session. Students and parents took a few minutes at the end to thank all the speakers for coming out to share their advice about school and the panelists themselves hoped that everyone learned something new.
This years College Life and Experiences Seminar was again a success and we thank everyone for coming out!
