On July 15th, 2018, 13 members of the East Cobb Young Musicians played music for the elderly at 3 different senior centers. Everyone greatly enjoyed the performance, including the seniors. However, the performances were met with less than usual attendance as many seniors were away. Despite this, it was still a success for everyone.
The performances had many different varieties of instruments from clarinets to cellos. Elmcroft was the first senior center they all visited, where a lot of residents were waiting with excitement. This was because just previously, another musician was performing. At first, we had people play practice music while we waited for everyone to arrive. After that, we started to play our normal music for the anxiously waiting crowd of seniors. Because of the distance between Elm Croft and Arbor Terrace, we had a group of people leave early to start heading there so we can play the full hour at each place.
At Arbor Terrace, we had people start off with some solos while we wait for those that remained at Elm Croft to arrive. Once they arrived, we started to play the various grouped music such as duets or quartet. The seniors at Arbor Terrace really enjoyed the classical music that we offered them.
Finally, we performed at East Cobb Senior Center, where the seniors were also anxiously waiting for us. Just like the previous two places, we started with some warmup songs while everyone was setting up and we were waiting for the seniors to sit down. Once that happened, we started to play our normal songs. In the end, the seniors clapped really loudly for us, and we took a photo with all of them. Just like any other performance, we had a good time.
The participating members were, Diane Chen(3 hours), Michael Fu(2 hours), Faith Huang(3 hours), Selina Huang(3 hours), Susanna Huang(3 hours), Maxwell Jiang(3 hours), Raymond Jiang(3 hours), Rachel Li(3 hours), Jay Pan(3 hours), Cynthia Ruan(3 hours), Katherine Sha(3 hours), Jack Xu(3 hours), Eric Wang(3 hours).
