AYLUS Pearland participated in, and helped organize/set up/clean up after the Spring Festival Celebration Gala on February 18th, 2018 at Berry Miller Junior High School in collaboration with the HuaXia Chinese School, the Pearland Chinese Association, and Pearland Youth Soccer Association. The Pearland branch took a part in hosting and singing two cultural songs for the Gala, celebrating the 2018 Chinese New Year. Three members of AYLUS spent days writing and rehearsing the script as hosts of the festival, and eighteen members practiced singing in preparation for one of the performances of the festival. During the celebration, approximately 500 audience members watched over 20 performances (including song, dance, kung fu, traditional instruments) of both students and adults from ages 3 to 78 showing their talents and sharing their culture with the Pearland community.
This event was phenomenal, and was AYLUS’ first event in which major public servants came in support of celebrating Asian culture, of which include: Pearland Major Tom Reid, State Representative Ed Thompson, Pearland Police Chief Johnny Spires, US Congress Texas 22nd District candidate Sri Preston Kulkarni, City Council candidate Dalia Kasseb, and Pearland School Board candidate Al Lloyd.
