On Labor Day, September 5, 2016, the AYLUS San Diego Branch students drove all the way from the coast of the Pacific Ocean to the rustic Santee Walker Preserve Trail. They put up two canopies so they could work in the shade. Together they dig three deep holes at the rocky mountain side. They used a cart to transport heavy pressure treated 4″x6″x16′ poles. Two bat boxes were put side by side on the same post. They used galvanized screws to make sure the bat houses can last for a long time. Smartphones and levels were used to make sure the posts were all straight at installation. Even though Labor Day was supposed to be a day of rest, the AYLUS San Diego Branch students did something special that was appreciated by the City of Santee. They also enjoyed picnic at the source of the San Diego River.
