On July 9, 2016, the Metro Detroit Branch completed the volunteer event for Annual Anchor Bay Triathlon. The triathlon was held in New Baltimore, MI. There were more than 300 racers participated the event, which started off with a 1/2 mile swim in Lake St. Clair followed by an 11 mile bike around New Baltimore, finished by a 3 mile run. The AYLUS Metro Detroit Branch members helped perform a variety of tasks including giving directions, passing out water for racers during the 11 mile bike and 3 mile run. Members were also stationed at the finish line and assigned to distributing wet towels, collecting number chips and passing out food. Furthermore, members helped put materials away after the race. The participants were Edison Chiu, Daniel Kong, James Li, Elayni Liu, Jeremy Liu, Spencer Liu, David Nie, Freddie Zhao, and Kevin Zhong. The Metro Detroit Branch hopes this event encourages physical activity as well as giving back to one’s community.
