On July 16, the AYLUS San Diego Branch hosted a successful concert for brain injury patients and senior citizens in La Jolla.
The CEO of San Diego Brain Injury Foundation (SDBIF) Susan Hansen gave an opening speech at the beginning of the concert. SDBIF is a nonprofit organization that provided services to more than 4000 brain injury patients in the Greater San Diego area, through therapy and counseling. Brain injury patients gave touching testimonies on how grateful they were to receive free music therapies from the ALYUS San Diego Branch students.
The AYLUS San Diego Branch collected a total of $1000 of donations from local businesses and donated all the proceeds to SDBIF.
Twenty high school and junior high students participated in and supported the event with seventeen performances. They received thunderous applauses from the audience. The talented students performed solo and duet in cello, flute, piano, saxophone, viola, violin, and the Chinese lute. There were also vocal performances and dances. Some students who performed there competed in the Tchaikovsky Youth Competitions and performed in the Carnegie Hall for more than five times. The young and promising dancing student won many local and national awards.
The students were diligent and practiced for two and half hours through a rehearsal on Friday July the 15th.
The mission of the concert is to raise awareness of brain injury patients and their needs. This is a wonderful way to give back to the community as we are blessed to live in a normal and healthy life.
The parents of the students supported the students and concert with enthusiasm. We would like to thank our young volunteers for their commitment to the community and their passion to serve the brain injury patients in the Greater San Diego Area.
