Ten members of Aylus Pearland volunteered with Pearland Parks and Recreation at the Celebration of Freedom Event on July 4th, 2016. In order to commemorate the sacrifices of our ancestors and ensure that the event ran smoothly, our members ran the shuttle service.
Aylus’ job was an important one. At the start of the shift – usually with two or three buses at once – several of the volunteers would greet the passengers and help them off the bus while others would run to the back to unload luggage. However, as the night went on and as visitors began to make their way back to the shuttles, the volunteers’ jobs were vital to making the event a success. As wave after wave of citizens left the stadium, it was up to Aylus to arrange them in an orderly fashion and usher them onto buses, while also loading luggage into the back of the bus and double check that families were not separated.
In total, we safely shuttled hundreds of Pearland citizens in and out of the Rig, and the Celebration of Freedom Event was a success.
On behalf of Aylus Pearland, we would like to thank Patricia Wiley for allowing us to volunteer with her. We would love to help out with Pearland Parks and Recreation again!
The volunteers were: Kevin Chen, Tony Liu, Jason Jiang, Jenny Yu, Jerry Gu, Julie Zhu, Han Lu, Liu Xin, Zhiyin Yu, and Daniel Li.
