Description of Basking Ridge Branch
We would like to start a new branch of AYLUS in Central New Jersey, focused on using music, among other things, to give back to the community. We believe that music is one of the most powerful ways to communicate with an audience and it would be amazing if we could spread our love of music to others in the community. Our primary goal is to have student musicians perform at various senior citizen centers and, in the future, expand to other venues and other activities. Currently, many of the students at our high school are skilled and dedicated musicians and volunteering at these places would allow them to gain experience in performing. Similarly, for the audience members, these performances could be a great opportunity to become exposed to various kinds of music. From our personal experiences, volunteering opportunities involving music are scarce, and we think it would be wonderful to incorporate these skillsets into our volunteering activities. Also, many volunteering groups are quite strict with their organizations and how they run their programs. Therefore, we think that establishing a new branch of AYLUS would provide the flexibility to organize our own performances and better include input from our members.
