The AYLUS Lake Washington Branch successfully hosted six sessions of the AP Calculus AB Prep Camp from July.24 to Aug.06 led by instructor Jiayi Zhu, with assistance from Kerui Xu and Wenjie Yan. The regular session was 2 hours long, and gave the students good insight into foundational of AP Calculus AB. Jiayi Zhu also spent additional time on Q&A and homework correction.
Day 1 (July 24):
Students were introduced to the course and its expectations. Most of unit 1 (limits) was covered. Students learned the concept of a limit and its applications in problems. Covered the IVT.

Day 2 (July 27):
Finished up unit 1 and started on unit 2 (derivatives). The class started with the limit definition of the derivative. Students learned basic derivative rules like the power rule and trig identities, they also started on product and quotient rules.

Day 3 (July 28):
Reviewed product and quotient rules, then learned chain rule and inverse derivative rules (unit 3). Knowing derivatives, students also learned L’Hospital’s rule.

Day 4 (July 29):
Covered unit 4 (application of derivatives). This unit is about the role of derivatives in calculating position, velocity and acceleration. Students also learned about related rates and implicit differentiation. Started on unit 5.

Day 5 (July 30):
Continued unit 5. Students learned about finding maximums and minimums using critical points. They were also taught the MVT and EVT, as well as the second derivative test. Also covered points of inflection and concavity.

Day 6 (July 31):
Briefly reviewed previous units, and started on unit 6 (integration). Students started by learning Riemann sums, then the limit definition of the integral. Then they were taught about basic integral rules and identities. Briefly started on definite integrals and u-substitution.

Day 7 (Aug.03):
Continued unit 6 by discussing various forms of Riemann sums. Continued with solving integral equations and more complex identities.

Day 8 (Aug.04):
Covered unit 7, which involves solving differential equations, slope fields, and proportional relationships. Students were taught more complex methods to deal with harder problems.

Day 9 (Aug.05):
Covered unit 8 (applications of integrals). This unit involves using both integrals and derivatives to related position, velocity, and acceleration. Also briefly covered using integrals to calculate the area of cross sections.

Day 10 (Aug.06):
Finished up with calculating volumes using cross sections and integrals. All the students then took a shortened version of an exam with real AP problems. All students who submitted their test with their name have received their scores, which are on track to do well in school in the future.
