On Friday, August 14th, from 9am to 1pm, members of AYLUS Roslyn volunteered at NOSH Delivers!, a local food pantry in Glen Cove that helps provide fresh, healthy food for families in need. As soon as we arrived, we got to work doing different tasks because it was so busy. Some volunteers sorted fresh produce, some packaged bread, others restocked the popular breakfast and lunch bags, while another sorted backpacks. Because it was so busy inside, volunteers had to quickly adapt and set up a table outside to pack lunch bags. After we ran out of lunch materials, we decorated more paper bags to make them fun and colorful and put the packed bags in the attic. While we were up there, we organized it and brought boxes of backpacks downstairs to prepare for a weekend event. We helped other volunteers indoors sort canned goods and stacked them on pallets.
Overall, it was a very fulfilling event and it felt great to give back to the community. We learned how to adapt quickly under pressure and safely navigate crowded areas with materials while still maintaining efficiency.
