AYLUS Syosset Volunteer At The Jones Beach Airshow 7/3/2026

On Friday, July 3rd 2026, members of Aylus Syosset came down to Jones beach to help protect endangered nesting birds. Every year Jones Beach hosts an air show on Independence Day . Thousands of people go to Jones Beach to watch the show and some may try to enter the nesting area of the endangered birds. Since this year’s air show celebrates America’s 250th birthday more people showed up for the airshow, meaning the volunteer effort to keep people out of the protected area was much more crucial. People entering could lead to further harm towards the birds nests and eggs and must be prevented to ensure the safety of the birds.

From 9 AM to 4PM, members sat in front of the fenced off area and ensured that no one crossed into the area. Although the weather was extremely hot reaching 100 degrees, members persevered and continued to protect the birds despite the heat. Protecting the habitat of the endangered birds is crucial due to their importance for Jones Beach’s ecosystem.

Despite the heat, members enjoyed volunteering and were happy that they were able to protect the endangered birds.
