On May 2nd of 2026, the AYLUS Great Neck Branch held an AAPI event at the Great Neck Main Library for the kids. The event started off with different volunteers reading aloud books to the kids. Nathan started off by reading the book, “Lunar New Year,” followed by Jiangyuan  reading, “Mulan’s Lunar New Year,” and ended off by Amber reading, “Black Beach.” After the read aloud the children had a choice of what activity they wanted to do. Nathan and Amber taught the kids how to create different types of flowers from modeling clay with different colors. Andrew and Jiangyuan taught the kids how to make dragons out of different colors of special origami paper. Overall, the event was a fun and engaging experience for the kids and the volunteers both.
