On May 3rd, 2026, AYLUS Syosset held its first volunteer-led basketball event of the year at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park (11791). The session began with one hour of basic training for all ages, focusing on dribbling, passing, and shooting fundamentals, followed by group photos at 10:00 AM. From 10:00 to 11:00, participants aged six and above joined organized scrimmage games, while younger children played freely under parental supervision. After the training, families gathered for an optional outdoor meetup, encouraging in-person interaction and reducing screen time among youth.
The event was led by youth volunteers Gary (17), Rick (16), Keji (16), and Danny (14), who helped organize drills, guide gameplay, and maintain a safe environment. Both Gary and Danny help prepared for the materials that are needed for this event. Participants included Dex (11), Vincent (11), Brian (11), Feifan (11), Qiwen (7), Isaac (11), and Grace (8), mostly from the Syosset community. Parents supported the event by supervising children and bringing snacks and drinks for the post-activity gathering. The session provided a positive start to the year, promoting teamwork, physical activity, and community engagement.
