On Saturday, March 28th, Syosset AYLUS members paid a visit to the cerebral palsy home in Bellmore. Centers across Nassau County serve over 1,500 individuals with cerebral palsy, both children and adults. Cerebral palsy is a neurological disorder having symptoms such as affected mobility and verbal communication. Today we brought over a bunch of hands-on activities for the residents, including interactive crafts, board games, and toys. With a bunch of holidays and birthdays coming up, most volunteers helped residents with making cards and decorating them. After all the arts and crafts were done, AYLUS always loves to bring in a sweet treat. We spent the remainder of the time baking chocolate muffins, a hands-on activity that everyone can enjoy. While it may not seem significant to us, small events such as making baked goods or drawing a card can leave a much more profound impact that we perceive it to be.
