On Thursday, August 20th, members from the Aylus Roslyn Branch volunteered at the Nosh Delivers food pantry located at Glen Cove from 9 to 1. Nosh Delivers is a non-profit organization founded during the pandemic to help supply food to people in need. Now, Nosh Delivers focuses on providing food to families in need or who struggle with food insecurity (as stated on the Nosh Delivers website). On this day, we spent most of our time doing two things, taking potatoes out of their bags and putting them into crates and shucking corn. Our first job, taking potatoes out of their bags and putting them into crates, was to make sure that they wouldn’t go bad. This is because if we kept them in the bags, the humidity would make them rot faster. Our second, and most time consuming job, was shucking all the corn. While doing this, we had to inspect each ear of corn very carefully to make sure there were no bugs eating the corn. The ears of corn that had bugs had to be thrown out. Some other jobs we did included restocking the shelves, bringing in deliveries, cleaning the food pantry up, and restocking the KFIP bags.
