Syosset Aylus volunteers at LINPI 11/15/2025

On November 15th, members of the Syosset AYLUS joined the Long Island Native Plant Initiative (LINPI) to assist with their support for local environmental initiatives. Volunteers used various tools to pull seeds out of a wheat like plant. This process involves using a scraper, or hands to grind down thick plants to allow the seeds to fall out. Volunteers also assisted with seed cleaning, and adding rice hulls to nursery pots to keep weeds from growing in open soil. Volunteers were also involved in the process of uppotting, taking mature plants out of a pot and placing it in a bigger one. Selected volunteers were taken to transport plant materials to the compost.
