On Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 1:30-4:30 PM, members of the AYLUS Syosset branch volunteered at the Chinese School at SUNY Old Westbury. Volunteers supported teachers with a variety of classroom tasks to help create a smooth and efficient learning environment.
Our responsibilities included printing papers, grading homework, and keeping the classroom orderly so that lessons could progress without disruption. For younger children, members provided additional assistance by accompanying them to the bathroom and ensuring that they felt safe and cared for during class. These tasks, though simple, were essential for reducing the teachers’ workload and ensuring that students had the support they needed to stay focused on their learning.
This type of volunteering highlights the importance of educational support roles, while teachers focus on instruction, volunteers help maintain an organized classroom atmosphere, allowing for better student engagement and learning outcomes. It also provides AYLUS members with leadership experience and the opportunity to positively influence younger students in a structured academic setting.
