On Sunday, September 7th, 2025, members of AYLUS volunteered at the local Chinese School from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM. During this service session, our volunteers helped support classes and activities, assisting teachers in maintaining smooth lessons and providing guidance to students. Our work primarily involved supporting younger children during their afternoon lessons. Volunteers helped students stay focused, assisted with assignments, and translated or clarified instructions when needed. For the youngest students, volunteers also accompanied them to the bathroom when necessary to ensure their safety and comfort. In addition to classroom support, we also helped with organizational tasks such as distributing materials and maintaining a positive learning environment. The students we worked with were primarily elementary-aged, and many came from families in the surrounding Long Island community. By being present in the classroom, we were able to create a supportive atmosphere where students could feel more comfortable asking questions and participating in their cultural education. This type of volunteering is especially important because language and cultural programs help preserve heritage while also building connections across generations. AYLUS members contributed to this mission by reinforcing classroom learning and providing encouragement to younger students.
