On August 30th, AYLUS volunteers gathered at Bethpage Valley Garden from 9:00 to 11:00 am to help prepare for the Ryder Cup. About 15 to 20 volunteers were handed an assortment of cloppers, shears, and gloves to help with the removal of Sweet Pepperbush shrubs. Groups of roughly 3 volunteers were designated to different areas, commonly a tree which had been overrun by invasive plants, and ripped out the harmful species. Poison Ivy was a prevalent risk to the trees and volunteers, so everyone was instructed to handle their work with care.
For more than two hours volunteers worked tirelessly in the sun to help make Bethpage a better place than it started. Thanks to the dedication of AYLUS volunteers the Bethpage Valley Garden was mostly restored to its original state. Volunteers made the garden more safe and welcoming for future visitors to come.
