Newtown AYLUS Members Volunteer at Local Library (10th)

On July 5, 2025, David and Edward Soong volunteered at the library for 2 hours each. Their main focus during this time was assisting the librarians with tasks around the building, especially since the staff was overwhelmed with a high number of returns and visitors throughout the afternoon.

One of the first jobs they handled was shelving a large number of returned books. There were multiple carts full of materials that needed to be sorted and organized, and with the librarians occupied with other responsibilities, David and Edward helped get these books returned to their proper places. This allowed the staff to stay on top of the steady flow of returns without falling behind and kept the library’s shelves neat and easy for visitors to browse.
They also spent part of their shift cleaning and organizing the children’s section, which had become untidy over the course of the day. David and Edward cleaned up the mess made by the children in the library. By taking care of this, they made it easier for the librarians to focus on other duties without having to stop and clean the section themselves.
Throughout their shift, they checked in regularly with the librarians to see where extra help was needed. Their assistance with shelving and cleaning helped ease the workload on the staff, reduced stress, and kept the library organized for everyone visiting that day. Their work made a noticeable difference in keeping the environment clean, orderly, and welcoming for the community.
