Newtown AYLUS Volunteers at FabLab Summer Camp on July 9, 2025

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, members of the Newtown Branch of AYLUS dedicated their time from 7:45 AM to 11:45 AM volunteering at the FabLab Center. FabLab is a STEAM learning center where children and youth of all ages are able to explore various technologies and skills related to science, engineering, art, and math.

Our two volunteers began the day by conversing and getting to know the campers during their morning drawing activity, which helped create a more social and friendly environment. When the first learning block began, our volunteers were separated to help manage each of the two groups of kids, accompanying them and answering any questions they had. One volunteer assisted with the younger kids, helping them create bracelets with beads, 3-D printed designs, and even taking them outside to enjoy the summer weather and play a game of tag. Our other volunteer assisted the older kids during their activity of creating wearable teachnology with microbits, passing around materials, answering any questions, and helping create the campers’ fashionable technology.

The event was very successful, with students being satisfied with their own creations and progress. They also received enthusiastic help from our volunteers whenever there was a concern or technical issue.

Members who participated were Diana Zhang (Event Leader) and Ryan He, both for 4 hours.
