On Friday, May 23rd, Syosset AYLUS members paid a visit to the Annual Jones Beach Airshow with the Long Island Piping Plover Protection group. A branch of New York State’s environmental preservation efforts, this group is dedicated to protecting these endangered species during their nesting season. Although today was their airshow’s practice day, volunteers still came together to monitor blocked off areas for the plovers. Even though the weather brought a chilly, windy day, everyone grabbed a vest, a hat, and proceeded to a plover nest. During our stay, everyone got to enjoy an airshow brought on by the United States Airforace, Navy, and Marines.
