On Saturday, June 15th, Syosset AYLUS volunteers made a return to the Long Island Native Plant Initiative. The LINPI is a combination of fields and greenhouses with a team all working towards the same goal: improving our planet. The LINPI is focused on growing local, natural resources that go towards our communities. Not only do they focus heavily on planting natives, but they also contribute to a regional seed bank. Their plants go towards their plant sales which local citizens and schools can purchase.
Today, Syosset AYLUS members came together to plant natives. Volunteers started by infiltrating the soil which was then used to fill containers. Once these containers were filled, they were passed on to transfer plants into their own individual slot. Every slot was carefully inspected and the containers made sure to have their designated labels. Our students were able to plant goldenrod, bushy aster, euthamia, and more. Together, dozens and dozens of containers were filled and these plants will continue to thrive in the weeks to come.
