Aylus Great Neck Branch Volunteer in Nissequogue State Park on 6/13/2026 (73th)
On 6/13/2026, Aylus volunteers went to a greenhouse in Nissequogue State Park to remove invasive plants from 9:00am to 12:00am (3 hours).
Today, the volunteers mainly worked on the Director’s driveway behind the greenhouse of the
Nissequogue State Park. After putting on gloves and spraying bug spray around shoes, the volunteers began to remove mile-a-minute along the driveway. Mile-a-minute is an invasive plant that has shallow roots and is easy to pull out. However, there are small spikes on the stem of the plant that volunteers need to pay attention to.
This is not our first time working on this road: in fact, Aylus volunteers have helped remove roots and clear the surface of the road here last year. There’re signs on the road that included pictures of Aylus volunteers doing work from last year too.
On the other hand, some volunteers were helping out the park staff by filling up pots with soil and transplanting native plants in them.
The park staff provided everyone with Italian ices in the greenhouse to take a rest. It is a meaningful experience to help the environment.
