On the afternoon of Saturday, April 25, 2026, members of the AYLUS Great Neck Branch arrived at the Great Neck Main Library to lead a hands-on activity event in the multipurpose room, engaging children and participants in interactive learning and crafts.
As with many of our sessions, the event began with storytime. Volunteer Jaden Chen read My First Chinese New Year by Karen Katz, volunteer Nathan Li read Our Family Dragon by Rebecca Lim, and volunteer Ryder Li read Flap Your Hands by Steve Asbell. Through these stories, the children learned about traditions and cultural elements related to Chinese New Year, Chinese heritage and Autism Awareness month.
Following storytime, volunteers guided participants through several hands-on activities. Rainie Cheng helped children learn basic crochet techniques, while Rebecca Xu, Jolynn Li, Nathan Li, Andrew Li, Brian Zhang, Jiangyuan and Ryder Li assisted with origami swan folding and making donut sea turtles. These activities helped participants develop fine motor skills, creativity, and hand-eye coordination, while also fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
In total, nine AYLUS members contributed to the event, working together to create an engaging and enjoyable experience for all participants.
