Event 82: AYLUS Morris Branch Partners with Madison Area YMCA for Diwali Food Donation Drive in October 2025

In celebration of the spirit of Diwali, the AYLUS Morris Branch partnered with the Madison Area YMCA to host a food donation drive supporting local families in need. The event aimed to honor the festival’s message of light, generosity, and compassion by giving back to the community and spreading hope among those facing food insecurity.

AYLUS members set up a collection box at the YMCA, encouraging members and visitors to donate nonperishable food items throughout the week. With the enthusiastic support of the community, the branch successfully collected 32 pounds of nonperishable food, including canned goods, grains, and nutritious pantry staples. The donations reflected the generosity and unity that Diwali represents — a celebration not only of light overcoming darkness, but also of kindness and shared humanity.

On the afternoon of October 20th at 4:00 PM, AYLUS volunteers gathered to sort, pack, and deliver the food to a local distribution center, where it would reach families in need within the area. Members worked together efficiently and cheerfully, reflecting on how meaningful it was to connect their cultural celebration with community service.

This Diwali initiative underscored AYLUS Morris Branch’s dedication to serving others while embracing diversity and inclusion. By collaborating with the Madison Area YMCA, the branch strengthened community ties and encouraged youth to lead with empathy and action.

Through this food donation drive, the AYLUS Morris Branch illuminated the true spirit of Diwali — spreading light through compassion, gratitude, and service to others.
