AYLUS RC Branch Members Volunteer at the 20th San Diego International Kids Film Festival on 08/26/2023 and 08/27/2023

On August 26th and 27th, SEVEN members of the AYLUS RC Branch had the privilege to participate as volunteers at the grand event of the 20th San Diego International Children’s Film Festival. Held at the Mira Costa Music Hall in Oceanside, the festival showcased over 150 outstanding children’s films from more than 30 countries. Our involvement spanned two days of the event, which commenced on the 25th.

The weather on the day of the event was exceptionally clear as we arrived at the venue. Upon our arrival, we immediately assisted the organizers in setting up the event space. Subsequently, we were assigned to different screening rooms to screen the selected films. It was our first experience handling film projection, and everyone was excited to dive into this new role.

The 26th primarily focused on film viewing, while the 27th was dedicated to judging and award ceremonies. Our primary role involved assisting in film projection. Following the conclusion of this segment, we collectively participated in an interactive session with the children. Many of the kids showcased remarkable performances, and we aided the photographers and videographers in capturing these moments.

On the 27th, the focus shifted to judging and award presentations. The films were judged in two categories: 0-14 years old and 14-17 years old. After assisting with the final setup tasks, we departed from the venue.

This experience marked our first close encounter with a large-scale international exchange event. We learned extensively about the usage of photography and videography equipment, assuming the role of film projectionists for a day. The two days passed in an atmosphere filled with joy and camaraderie. We eagerly anticipate the possibility of participating in this event again next year.

The 20th San Diego International Children’s Film Festival provided us with invaluable insights, fostering personal growth and a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking. It was an honor to contribute to such a significant cultural event, and we look forward to future opportunities for involvement in similar endeavors.

The seven members volunteered for the following times over the course of the two days.

Ryan Kan: 13 hours     Yongxi Hu: 11 hours   Zixuan Wang: 13 hours

Eric Wang: 10 hours   Xinxin Wang: 13 hours  Yixuan Yuan: 9 hours

Takeshi Abe: 9 hours
