This is the 58th event held by AYLUS Oakland Gardens. On Friday, March 29, 2024, AYLUS Oakland Gardens members went to their local Post Office to mail the books to NSubponda TI Primary & Community in Ghana, Africa. Even though it was spring, the day was still cold and windy, but our members were still determined to send the books. We were very excited that we were finally able to donate the books that we started collecting during January.
African Library is an organization that is dedicated to making a library for Africa. It collects books and money for the library. The money fundraised is to support and build it. This is to help the students who need books for school or entertainment. The money and books are collected through donations and fundraisers. It is our goal that all of the people have books to read and use.
Our members went inside the Post Office and were greeted by a very nice worker. We waited in line with our boxes and were soon able to get ready to mail the books. Our members went back to the parent advisor’s car to grab the rest of the boxes as we weren’t able to grab all of them on the first try. The boxes were very heavy, but we brought all of them inside in a very short amount of time. We made sure the boxes have a maximum weight limit of 40 pounds so that they wouldn’t be giving the people handling them a hard time.
Our parent advisor stayed inside to explain the amount of boxes we were donating and what it is for. The workers were very understanding of our goal and were very patient with the amount of boxes that they have to ship out. Our members brought the boxes over to the workers who started packing them away for shipping. Our parent advisor paid for the shipping fee with the money we gathered from fundraisers.
We would like to thank the workers at the Post Office for helping us ship the books. They were very polite and helped us greatly.
