AYLUS Oakland Gardens Organized Books (02/24/2024)

On February 24th, 2024, volunteers from the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch organized the books that we have collected and people donated to create a library for Nsubonta TI Primary & Community. The weather was cold today, paired with chilly winds which made it feel even colder. Despite this, our group organized and sorted through all the books so that they could help create a library.

During the 2.5 hours of today’s event, our members went through and sorted the books, putting them into different piles depending on their quality. We prioritized the more newer books than the older ones, as we wish to provide the best reading experience possible. These books are then sorted based on grades as we have a variety of reading levels from the books. Once some of the books are separated into piles, some of our members start putting them into boxes to be mailed out. We made sure each box does not exceed 40 pounds and we did this by weighing the boxes after we put the books in. We then label the boxes with the amount of books before taping the entire box so it will be harder for the books to get damaged while being transported. People who walked by thought that we were doing a yard sale because of the huge amount of books we had.
