Riverside County AYLUS Members Create Succulent Arrangements for the Elderly in February, 2024

This event started out with our members wanting to create some succulent arrangements for the elderly.

In addition to the handmade cards, RCA members had been busy with getting succulent cuttings and propagating them. Some members got succulents donated that they had prepared to transfer into small to mid-size containers. Some of the plants that were used to propagate were carefully cut and the cuttings dried overnight to allow callus to form before getting transferred into small containers. Others were carefully separated and repotted.
The plants were then added and transferred from those small containers into bowls where nutrient rich soil was added beforehand.

Sophie Chung, Robert Tran and Khang (Daniel) Tran then worked together to finalize the origami cards they had previously worked on by adding a few lines of personalized text for the elderly on the inside. Then they transported the succulents and cards to surprise the seniors for the upcoming Valentine’s Day.

Some seniors who live in senior homes might feel lonely, especially during days such as Valentine’s Day. In order to brighten their day, RCA members decided to create a Succulents for Seniors event and add handmade Origami and heart shaped cards to it.
