AYLUS Oakland Gardens Sold Balloons for Fundraiser (01/23/2024 – 01/24/2024)

On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, and Wednesday, January 24, 2024, the AYLUS Oakland Gardens Branch had a fundraiser where they sold balloons at two elementary schools, one on each day. This week was regents week, so some of our high school members were able to attend. It was drizzling on both days, but our members still had a great time.

On the first day, our members went to P.S. 46 to fundraise money for the book drive. People wished to support us, and they bought some of the balloons that we prepared. However, some don’t carry cash on them and asked if we accepted credit cards as they wish to help. Unfortunately we don’t accept any cards. Towards the end of the fundraiser, two teachers that worked at the school came up to us and asked what this is for. We explained how this is a fundraiser to create a library in Africa for higher rates of poverty areas. After hearing that, they wished to support us and they bought two balloons to show their support.

On the second day, our members went to P.S. 203. Even though this is our third time going to P.S. 203, many people still went to buy balloons. Furthermore, it was slightly drizzling. However, our members persevered and still arrived to help fundraise. We had many balloons left over from the first day of our event, because there weren’t many people, so we had plenty for the second day.

Because it was slightly raining, many parents were rushing to bring their children home, but they still showed support for us and bought some balloons. Some of our most popular ones included Peppa/George Pig, bunnies, superheroes, and unicorns. Some people even bought more than one balloon! Our members appreciated these kind gestures from citizens in our local community.

This brought us closer to our goal, which was creating a library for people who live in the areas that have higher poverty rates in Africa. We would like to thank everyone who showed support and donated!
