Orange Branch Writes Cards for Seniors With Sending Sunshine and the Woodbridge Branch on 01.03.2024

Reported by: Monica Chen

On January 3rd, 2024, members of the Orange Branch in collaboration with the Woodbridge branch and a nonprofit organization called Sending Sunshine organized a card making event. Members wrote an uplifting message for seniors on the card. The message had to be at least 3 sentences long, with any kind of kind messages allowed. They also decorated the cards. Students were given 0.5 volunteer hours for each card made.

Writing cards for the elderly is a profoundly meaningful initiative with numerous benefits. It helps alleviate feelings of loneliness by reminding recipients they are cared for, and that the world is a beautiful place. The emotional well-being of the elderly is uplifted, as handwritten cards convey a personal touch that electronic messages may not have. Additionally, these tangible keepsakes often become cherished items, offering comfort and feelings of happiness.

In essence, this simple yet powerful act of kindness contributes to the well-being of the elderly while fostering a compassionate and interconnected community.
