On Thursday, November 23, 2023, volunteers from Oakland Gardens Branch donated many clothes and garments to The Salvation Army and Goodwill. Even though the weather was a bit cold, we still headed out to make sure that other people going through things would be provided with warm clothes. These items will be given to people who really need them.
Goodwill is a nonprofit organization that sells items to people with disabilities or disadvantages. It may be hard for these people to get a job and manage to achieve self efficiency. Then the people sell the items to other people to gain money and, eventually, manage to start making their own money by themself. Other people buy the clothes and wear them to stay warm. This is why we donated warm and furry clothes.
The Salvation Army is a church. It dedicates its time to helping those in need. One way it does this is by taking in donated clothes and giving them to those in need. This is very effective. The Salvation Army also helps support those who need support to by “offering the message of God’s healing and hope”
We also donated items such as shoes. Most shoes have fur inside of them, which is an essential part in the cold winter months. Furthermore, we donated scarfs, jackets, beanies, and lots more. Many donated items include fur to help people stay warm.
Our members took clothes from home that they do not wear anymore. We found the closest Salvation Army box or Goodwill box. We all know that these items will be put to good use. Otherwise, we would not have donated to The Salvation Army or Goodwill. AYLUS sends warmth and saves lives!
