Gladstone Branch Helps The Wagner Farm Arboretum Vegetable Garden in August 2023

Reported by Kaden Luo

The date was August 26th, 2023, and it was a hot and humid Saturday morning. Instead of sleeping in, the AYLUS Gladstone Branch, with its new members, provided some much-needed assistance to the Wagner Farm Arboretum (WFA) Vegetable Garden in their weekly Giving Gardens. Activities included picking weeds, harvesting pears, breaking up clumps of soil, and providing a layer of compost to plant new seeds, just to name a few.

The harvested vegetables are then delivered to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other agencies such as Feeding Hands of Somerset County. The ultimate goal is to provide fresh, organic produce to families, elders, and individuals who don’t have the resources to have a healthy and nutritional meal. Sometimes, we take for granted what we have and don’t realize that there are some people out there who lack even basic necessities, which is why it is extra important to give back to those in need. Thank you to the participating members: Kaden Luo, Anya Wang, and Nithish Selvaraj, for contributing to this effort!
