Murrieta AYLUS Helps Local Senior Center ( 20th) ( 8/01—8/06 / 2023)

Reported by Adora Xiao :

On Tuesday, August 1st: The residents commented upon the cloudy weather, enjoying a cool breeze while walking around the courtyard. They hydrated between rounds, with a choice of orange juice and water. When the residents began their exercise rounds, the volunteers went inside to prepare their snack: small pieces of mandarin orange in cups. As the residents enjoyed their fruit, the volunteers poured more juice and water, and passed out napkins. A few residents were taken on more walks before they read the daily chronicle together, and as the sun came out and the courtyard became incredibly hot, the residents were moved back inside. After some sing-a-long, the residents were transported to the dining hall to enjoy their lunch.

On Friday, August 4: The residents had been moved outside, and were taken on walks periodically to enjoy the sun. As the residents began their exercise regimen, the volunteers began preparing their snack. This consisted of spoonfuls of an assortment of fruit, small marshmallows, and drizzling of chocolate. The exercise hadn’t yet concluded when the snacks were finished, so the volunteers assisted with helping the residents work out. After, the snacks were passed out, and the volunteers poured drinks for residents who wanted them. The residents finished the snacks quickly and began reading the daily chronicle together.  As lunch neared, the residents conversed with one another and with the volunteers, before being taken to the dining room.

On Sunday, August 6th: The volunteers let the residents through their exercise, stretching out joints and muscles, and introducing blood flow to their legs. As the residents grew tired, the volunteers poured cranberry juice and water for them to hydrate, adding thickening powder when necessary. They also passed around a few crackers, and as the residents finished their snack and drinks they then distributed the daily chronicle. While reading, the volunteers conversed with some of the residents, before taking them outside to enjoy the sun. Many of the residents took walks to enjoy the fresh air and plants in the courtyard, before they were transported to the dining hall to eat lunch.
