AYLUS Bellaire branch volunteered for the eighth consecutive trash clean-up at Evelyn’s Park on July 30, 2023

On July 30, 2023, members of the AYLUS Bellaire branch volunteered for the eighth
consecutive trash clean-up at Evelyn’s Park.

From 5:30pm to 6:30pm, volunteers wore gloves and used old grocery bags to collect trash from
Evelyn’s park. During this cleanup, they frequently picked up straw wrappers and receipts.
Volunteers also found a slipper in between some rocks, as well as an empty pizza box. Since
there were stands set up in the field, volunteers generally avoided that area to prevent
disturbances.

Investing in appropriate personal protective equipment like gloves demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of both volunteers and the community at large. By equipping volunteers with gloves, organizers prioritize their health and minimize potential hazards associated with handling various types of waste.

Moreover, promoting the use of gloves reinforces the importance of safety protocols during park cleanups, ensuring that volunteers can carry out their duties effectively while mitigating risks. As such, integrating gloves into the cleanup process becomes not just a measure of hygiene but a fundamental aspect of responsible stewardship of public spaces.

Other than some parts of the field, volunteers covered the entire park. They collected 11 bags of
trash, and combined them into one large bag that weighed around 10 pounds.

The following volunteers participated in this event (1 hour): Alexander Tang, Isabel Li, Lucy Huang,
Jenny Sun, Owen Cheng, Matthew Zong, Yuruo Shen, Liyan Feng, Andrew Chen, Daniel Wu,
and Edward Cai.
