Syosset Aylus Hosts a Presentation on College Prep at SUNY Old Westbury, 6/4/23

Members of AYLUS Syosset, participated and organized in a student-run event at SUNY Old Westbury where parents were able to ask questions about college applications, extracurricular activities, academics, community and volunteer service. Presenters namely Alan Huang, Ben Huang, Eric Huang and Michelle Zeng gave an introduction about themselves, their school, academic major(s) and hobbies. Highschool and college graduates as well as those still attending college have generously donated their time to give their opinions and share their experiences as Chinese American students. They talked about their hobbies growing up in elementary and middle school and the transitions of moving from high school to college and how they chose their colleges and careers. Many shared their sentiments about allowing students to spend the time to find out what they truly are most passionate about and how students who’ve yet to enter college can apply their interests into their careers. Members also mentioned how important it was for them to engage in extracurricular activities that they truly enjoyed doing, such as Robotics Club, Science Olympiads or Chinese martial arts and more. Through this Q and A event, parents were able to come away with information given to them by students who truly understand the experience of applying to colleges in this generation and how they can help their children to achieve their academic and career goals.
