On August 20th, 2022, AYLUS Murrieta members volunteered at a local food bank, Western Eagle Foundations – WEF. A new member Trisha joined the activity for the 1st time, and we also had 3 young guests (Ashlyn / Lennett / Silvia ) join us today, incredibly eager to learn everything taught by the elder members. It was just adorable to see the little ones doing their best to help!
At WEF , members first started by helping sort foods that were boxed from donations, which were all mixed up in the boxes, so we were instructed to sort them out as snacks /drinks / boxes food / medicine / non-food items in each cart, so it would be easier for the shelf organizers to put onto the shelves during the weekdays. We also found a large amount of pet food!
Thanks to all members’ team work, we quickly finished sorting the donations into the carts within the hour. We then moved on to looking through the food isles to help put misplaced food in the right section, and the little helpers were excited to work on the bottom 2 shelves where the height was reachable to them. They “ran” to put the displaced items back to their location, and we all melted to see their shiny smile each time they organized an item.
After finishing with the food aisles, we moved to the main section of the store to organize the messy clothing piles, as well as cleaning the shelves.
We’re happy to have our new member and the 3 little guests that joined us today and look forward to our next visit next week!
After a lunch break, 3 members went to clean up their local park – Morgan Hill park. They scoured the park looking for trash and then moved on to picking up trash on the sidewalks near the parks. After members were done cleaning the park, they went to the neighborhood next to the park and tested out asking people for their cans/bottles to recycle for the animal shelter which we’re planning to do in 2 weeks. The members look forward to expanding the project later!
